Putting Waste in the Right Place

Despite the distance caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the people of Barangay La Concepcion with the help of the Medical Students from Ateneo de Zamboanga University still managed to turn their plans into reality with a common goal, which is to make Barangay La Concepcion a better and a more productive community.

In line with this goal, they implemented several activities under their Solid Waste Management program which includes the provision of Material Recovery Facility to each purok, establishment of a more organized garbage collection system, with the wastes being collected every 14th day of the month, they also provided logbooks to each purok representative for the proper recording ang documentation of garbage collection. It was also maid mandatory by the Barangay Council that every household should have their own compost pits, which will be monitored from time to time by the Barangay Tanods. They also started implementing other activities such as Road Clearing which is done by the Barangay Council every first and third Mondays of the month and the clean up drive which is done by the community residents every first Sunday of the month.

To ensure the sustainability of the all their existing and future Solid Waste Management programs, they also came up with a SWM Core Group which is headed by Barangay Councilor Victor Alforque together with the Barangay Secretary Richelle Embodo, SK Representative Albert Negre and the Purok Representatives Loila Enunciado, Tersa Dela Cerna, Maribeth Ferolino, Milsan Velasquez, Welissa Crazan and Maribel Field, people that took courage to lead their fellow community residents in making Barangay La Concepcion a better and more tidy community one household at a time.
