The novel corona virus, Covid-19, which triggered a global pandemic at a confounding pace has affected not only the Philippines but the whole world. Following the emergence of Covid-19 and its spread outside China, countries like the Philippines are experiencing the deadly virus’ life-threatening and horrifying socio-economic impacts; sky-rocketing unemployment, shortages at the grocery stores, and empty restaurants and churches. These are just few of the detrimental effects of Covid-19 which caused many of us to fear that we have entered a new normal that just won’t go away.
As the cases of Covid-19 continue to rise and as it continuously impact millions of community across the globe, the Filipino’s renowned brand of positivity still reigns in Barangay La Concepcion.
The people of La Concepcion stands as a living example of the good things that have emerged from this time as well. Families are spending more time and eating meals together at home. Long-awaited projects are getting done and people are honing new skills.
On a more positive note, just right after MGCQ was declared for the entirety of Sindangan, the people of La Concepcion started to go back to what they’ve termed as the “old-normal”. People started to go back to their usual activities of daily living, mananagats (fishermen) went back to their normal fishing routine, farmers went back to their respective farms and even the billiard boys started playing their favorite hobby again.
These are simple yet concrete proof of how resilient and positive-minded we Filipinos are.
As with any difficult situation, each of us should rely on different coping mechanism in order for us to maintain the equilibrium of our mental state. The people of La Concepcion decided to cope with the pandemic by keeping their faith exalted, and by being responsible citizens as shown by their limitation of their movement in and out the premises of the barangay which was their way to ensure and maintain that no one from them will become infected by the said virus.
