Most of us know that hypertension is a silent killer, sometimes people call it a “traydor” disease. It has no signs and symptoms. You will never know that you have it unless it becomes chronic or you have your blood pressure always checked.

According to the Department of Health national survey in 2017, the total number of hypertensive Filipinos is now more than 12 million. With this alarming data, the problem on hypertension in the community was to be expected.

In order to identify individuals who are to be a major target for a Community Health Plan (CHP) against hypertension, the medical students had a mass Blood Pressure (BP) taking in the barangay. A schedule was set for each purok. During the BP taking, most of the residents who came out to have high BP are unaware of their condition. Most of them will say that they don’t feel anything and that they are okay. Along with the BP taking is a health teaching regarding hypertension and its effects to the family as well as to the community.

The residents were very eager to listen and they openly asked questions to the medical students about their confusions and for clarifications regarding the disease.

The team are looking forward to work hand in hand with the residents of La Concepcion to fight against this disease through lifestyle modification.

Maghi-usa kita laban sa alta presyon!!!!
